John began drawing at an early age; heavily influenced by his beloved grandmother. John’s passion for exploration, learning and living off the land he also attributes to his grandmother. Her beadwork and traditional knowledge is still spoken of in Aamjiwnaang. Her legacy continues through John’s art.
John attended the former Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School in Sarnia and went on to study at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. His previous commissions include a mural for the community centre at Aamjiwnaang, as well as a painting at the Rondeau Provincial Park visitors centre and the Sarnia Police training centre. |
Artwork by Kennady Rayn will be a collection of abstract expressionist style mixed media paintings.
There will be some older pieces I’ve done and newer pieces in my series of paintings. The overall theme in my work is nature, healing, overcoming struggle and trauma through connection to family, our ancestors and to the land. I’m eager to share these pieces! |
Hello/Boozhoo everyone! I am the owner Seventh Rayn Design Co. I was born and raised in Corunna, Ontario and moved to the big city of Toronto to pursue my dream of creating art at the Ontario College of Art and Design University. I originally went into Drawing and Painting but switched into Indigenous Visual Culture in my second year to start my journey in reconnecting with my indigenous roots. My ancestry is made up of Haudenosaunee and Scottish roots. I ended up dropping out of art school in my third year and moving back home. I never would have thought I would be running my own art business one day as I thought my art career was over.
This company started as a way to solidify myself as a mural artist but has now turned into a platform for me to explore all styles of art that I love to create. I continue to try my best to incorporate my culture into my work as I navigate my connections between my mixed heritage. Eventually I am hoping to expand and have more artists join me in my company. |
